~Stefanas~
The
Stefania (Stefana / Bridal
Crowns) are an integral part in the Wedding Ceremony of the Orthodox Church.
During
the Orthodox wedding ceremony,
the two Crowns are joined by a ribbon which
symbolises the union of the
Bride and Groom's souls, and
at the same time establishing them as King and
Queen of their home, where they will rule their "kingdom"
or household with full
responsibility and respect to
each other and to God.
During
this crowning, the
Priest takes the two Stefana and crowns the bride and groom. The
koumbaro or Koumbara (best man
/ matron of
honour) then steps behind the bride and groom and
interchanges the Stefana three times as a witness to the sealing of
this union. The priest then
leads the couple around the
alter 3 times signifying the
eternity of their marriage.
